The Gourmet Club 2006, coordinated by João de Sousa Barroca, David Millán, Susana Sariego and Christopher Perras, all IMBA06, has organized a series of 4 events this year to display the rich gastronomy and wine culture of Spain.

First, in November 2005, the Club hosted a wine tasting by Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen (CRDO) Ribera del Duero, a region famous for its intense reds, full of ripe aromas and elegance – one shouldn't expect less from the region home to Vega Sicilia’s reputed wines!
LogoRiberaDuero.jpg

Shortly thereafter the Club welcomed the turrón makers “Hijos de Manuel Pico Llórens” of Jijona, a family owned company that presented a wide variety of the typical Spanish delicacy and demonstrated how they manage to keep the manufacturing authentic.

In April Mr. Agustín Lago from CRDO Rías Baixas conducted a wine tasting of this Galician denomination, renowned for its superb, fruity whites. He presented four Albariño wines, including a rare bottle served at the Wedding Reception of HRH the Prince of Asturias!

Finally, in July the Club hosted Ms. Carmen Aumesquet from CRDO Jerez. After the "Jerez discovery" session, all agreed with Shakespeare's famous quote: "If I had a thousand sons, the first human principle I would teach them would be to abjure all insipid drinks and dedicate themselves to sherry wine" .

We thank all these sponsors for making possible the IE Gourmet Club!!!

Dear TechIE people!

As we talked about in the first meeting for the Club, we will hold TOMORROW a pre-Christmas meeting to discuss about specific activities to carry out during 2007, in room P-413 (Pinar, 18), starting at 4 pm.

Hopefully the meeting won't be too long for those of us finishing works before holidays it won't be too time consuming. For the people that cannot attend the meeting and want to suggest something, please send an email to techie.club@ie.edu, and Merry Christmas and see you next year!

Summarizing a bit some of the things that we discussed during the presentation in our first meeting:
TechIE Day to be organized perhaps by end of April, beginning or May. I'd like MBAs, IMBAs, EXMBA, etc. to tell us depending on their schedule, which could be the best time to attend (depending on exams, projects, etc.), so IE people is more willing to come.
Brainstorming: concretized in expert panels (and?). Some of our targets could be to try to bring Enrique Dans and/or/vs Martin Varsavsky, which are very related to IE.
Blogs / newsletter : this requires continuity
Publish publications, articles, focusing on business development plans: collaboration required among us, as this involves certain workload added to our Programmes
Partnering with other Clubs for certain mixed panels (GBE, Net Impact, ... ?)
Promote IE among today's new internet media (?): videos, content,... The idea would be to make IE present in those places where American Universities may be taking the lead
The Club should provide some kind of 'output' to make visible our actions

Twenty three people from 10 countries have attend the dinner on 24th, Nov, which was organized by Asian Family Club. Since this November has been named as the Month of Japan, the dinner has been put in a Japanese Restraunt in Madrid. Although the major people are from the same continent, many of us are happy to discover the differences between Japanese Culture and the culture of own country.

Thanks for all the efforts made of Eiji and his Japanese classmates that night. December will be the month of Korea. Let's wait and see.

IE Business School promotes the debate on corporate responsibility, social enterprise and sustainability

Madrid, November 2006. On November 17, IE Business School brought together world experts in corporate responsibility, renewable energies and the development of social business projects to analyse challenges and opportunities in their respective fields.

Acciona Logo.jpg Sanitas Logo.jpg

They all took part in the 1st IE Social Responsibility Workshop, an event organised by students currently undertaking the International MBA at IE, and sponsored by Sanitas and Acciona.

During the workshop the Social Entrepreneurship Award was announced, an award for the best social business plan designed by students from IE and partner schools of the Sumaq Alliance in Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil. The award, which came with a prize of €3000, is for projects that have social impact as a central component of the enterprise, while being both economically and socialy sustainable, as well as their potential to be implemented in other countries. In this first edition, the judges panel decided to share the prize and gave the award to the Help Argentina project drafted by students from the University of San Andrés (Argentina) and the Venezuela Option project developed by students from IESA (Venezuela).

Speakers at the 1st IE Social Responsibility Workshop included the following:

Jed Emerson, advisor to Al Gore on matters of sustainability, world expert in strategic philanthropy and sustainable investment and Senior Fellow of Generation Foundation. Founding director of the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund, has had faculty appointments at Stanford and Harvard Business Schools and twice been selected by the Nonprofit Times as one of the 50 Most Influential People in the Nonprofit Sector.

Daniel Lubetzky, President of PeaceWorks Holdings and promoter of the One Voice civic movement in which thousands of Israeli and Palestinian citizens work together to achieve peace in the Middle East, fighting against radicalism to reinforce their economic, business and social bonds. Since the year 2002, One Voice has managed to involve more than 200,000 Israeli and Palestinian citizens in projects involving the civil fight for peace and business development in the region. The movement has received the King Hussein Humanitarian Leadership Prize and has offices in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, New York, London and Ottawa, where it coordinates its activities.

Jeroo Billimoria, founder of Childhelpline, an NGO that helps children who live in the streets of India. Childhelpline helps the millions of disadvantaged children who live in the streets in India through a free 24-hour telephone line that puts them in contact with a broad network of social organisations. Thanks to the franchise growth model, Childhelpline has grown quickly in 31 cities in India and has already provided services for 4.5 million Indian children. For further information about the NGO, please log on to: http://www.childlineindia.org.in.
