The IE Partners Club recently held their first gathering. They sold pizza, pop and beer to IE students and their families. It may have been a bit chilly, but the sun was shining and a good time was had by all who attended. Way to go Partners Club!

"Fuimos al Museo del Traje porque tiene una variedad increible de colecciones, desde piezas del siglo XVI hasta piezas contemporaneas realizadas por famosos diseñadores españoles y extranjeros. Tambien pudimos conocer la exposicion temporal de MUJERES DE BLANCO, donde apreciamos trajes de novias de todas las epocas, algunos de los cuales fueron utilizados por personalidades españolas recientemente.
Luego tomamos un rico cafe en el restaurant del Museo"

2008 PLANNED ACTIVITIES
WORKSHOPS - We will have 6 throughout the year. Each workshop will have an entrance fee of 5 euros. The first three topics are: (Working in Spain, Leadership, & Event Organization)
• Gatherings - The objective is to collect money for the activities of the club, by selling food & drinks to IE students. It will take place in the IE garden (Serrano 99).
• Museums & Other visits - Enjoy the vast cultural life Madrid has to offer inside its different museums & cultural landmarks.
• Activities - We will organize activities at different hours (morning, afternoon & evening)
• Weekends - We're also going to have weekend activities.
• Kids Activities - This information will be sent directly to those members who have children.

ACTIVIDADES QUE SE VAN A REALIZAR EN EL 2008
- Talleres- Tendremos 6 durante el año. Para entrar a cada taller habrá que pagar una pequeña cantidad de 5 euros. Las primeras tres asignaturas son: (Trabajar en España, Liderazgo y Organización de Eventos).
- Reuniones festivas: El objetivo es recaudar dinero para las actividades del Club, las reuniones festivas tendrán lugar en el jardín del IE (Serrano 99), venderemos comida y bebida a los estudiantes.
- Museos y Otras visitas: La idea es aprovechar la enorme vida cultural de Madrid en sus diferentes museos y otros lugares.
- Actividades: Organizaremos actividades a diferentes horas (por la mañana, por la tarde y por la tarde-noche).
- Fines de semana: También tendremos actividades los fines de semana.
- Actividades para niños: Se informará directamente a los miembros del Club que tengan niños.

Last Friday the Partners Club had the first session of the Cross-cultural Seminar in which we discussed about culture and stereotypes. In the photo Nidhi, Paula, Shara, Graciela, Lisa, Monica, Katy, and Rosy. Representing India, Brazil, Italy Mexico, England and Iran. We had great time but we could not reach an agreement: Can you bargain at “El Corte Inglés?”.

El pasado viernes el Club de Partners tuvo la primera sesión del Seminario Cross-cultural en el cual hablamos de cultura y estereotipos. Lo pasamos fenomenal pero no llegamos a un acuerdo: ¿Se puede regatear en el Corte Inglés?

As you may be aware, the Partners' club in IE is a lively forum for interaction for the partners of all IE students. The main aim of this club is to help the partners and children of IE students integrate as fully as possible into life at the school and in Madrid. Here they can meet other Partners, suggest events for to organize,exchange and share information on life in Madrid.

Como ya sabran, el Club de Partners (pareja) en el IE es un foro vivo de interaccion de los partners de los alumnos del IE. El principal objetivo es ayudar a los partners e hijos de alumnos del IE a integrarse a la vida en la escuela y en Madrid. Aqui pueden conocer a otras Partners, sugerir eventos, organizarlos e intercambiar y compartir informacion de la vida en Madrid.

The club usually meets every other week to engage in a cultural activity, learn new skills from our fellow partners, appreciate the culinary delights that Madrid has to offer, or just to have a coffee and chat. We learn from each other’s successes and knowledge of Madrid, Spain and the world, and welcome everyone to be a part of our experience. Children are invited to participate in all activities.
The Partners' club for 2006-07 has since December '06, arranged activities such as visits to museums, shopping at Las Rosas village , formal Spanish classes for conversation , a Mexican fiesta, a cross cultural workshop, weekly Cafe y Charlar sessions( to brush up our Spanish over coffee !) , besides meeting for tapas and drinks every alternate week ! What's more, you too can accompany your partner and participate in most of our activities !
We have a lot of exciting events planned for the year so if you have brought your partners along, please share this email with them and ask them to write in to us. We usually communicate through a Yahoo group. The instructions to join it are given below.

El club se reune cada 2 semanas en una actividad cultural, para compartir habilidades entre el grupo de partners, disfrutar de la comida en Madrid o simplemente tomar un cafe y charlar. Aprendemos de los exitos y conocimiento de los otros miembros del grupo acerca de Madrid, España y el mundo. Tambien estan invitados los hijos de los
Partners a todas las actividades.
El club de partners de 2007, empezo a coordinar actividades desde Diciembre de 2006, tales como: visita a un museo, ir de compras a las Rozas Village, una cena mexicana, un taller multicultural, clases formales de conversacion en español, sesiones semanales de cafe y charlar en español (para mejorar el español tomando cafe), tambien ir de tapas y beber cada 2 semanas. Tu Pareja puede acompañarte a la mayoria de las actividades.

A group of students from England have been lucky enough to have Giovanna Lagos Cabieses as their personal interpreter this week. Several MBA students from Manchester Business School used their student contacts here at IE to obtain a personal interpreter in Madrid while they are performing their International Project; their last academic requirement before graduating.

The students are here to discuss business opportunities with companies in Spain and they needed a Spanish/English interpreter for several of the meetings they had with multinational companies. In addition to serving as the interpreter for these meetings, Giovanna has been assisting in planning the meetings by making phone calls on the students' behalf.

This experience was positive for both the MBA students and Giovanna. Giovanna did well enough during these meetings to have been offered a job as an interpreter by one of the companies that the students met with!

Well done Giovanna!

Giovanna is one of many bilingual members of the IE Partners' Club. The partners' business experience range widely from architecture, law, teaching, NGO's, marketing, design, communications, medicine, biology, public relations, engineering, to international economics. The bilingual (or tri-lingual) partners' languages include French, German, Spanish, English, Portuguese, Korean and Hindi.

The Partner's Club welcomes Silvana to the IE Familie! On February 16, 2006 Martha and Paulino celebrated the birth of their new baby girl Silvana Romero Aguiar. Beautiful baby and beautiful mother are both doing well, as the proud father will attest. Congratulations!

El Club de Partners le da la bienvenida a Silvana a la familia IE! El 16 de febrero Martha y Paulino celebraron el nacimiento de su primera bebita Silvana Romero Aguiar. La hermosa bebé y la hermosa madre están perfectamente. Felicitaciones!

The IE Partners' Club welcomed on January 2 new members for their club. This represents the second intake of members as the new students from other programs arrived in January. As well as introducing themselves, current members, all partners from the International MBA students who arrived in October and November of 2005, got together to present their initiatives to the newly arrived. The club keeps on growing and so does its program!

The IE Partners' Club has, as part of its list of activities, an Almodóvar Movie Series. These take place regularly in the IE premises and all partners and students are invited. With this series, the Club tries to present an interesting view of Spain and, in many cases, of Madrid through the eyes of one of the most internationally renowned Spanish directors. Almodóvar has developed through his career a very characteristic style both thematically and aesthetically. It is through this that international students can be exposed to the "other" Spain and local students can enjoy some of the classics. The Partners' Club has played so far "Pepi, Lucy, Bom y las otras chicas del montón" (the director's first commercial film) and "Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios" (the first movie to reach international exposure). They gathered together for an evening of drinking, dining, dancing, and picture taking!

In the spirit of the Christmas holidays, friendship, and camaraderie IE students along with friends and family gathered at Café Oliver on their final day of classes for period 1. This celebration was organized by the IE Partners' Club (Joana Pérez and Renée Culver) and was attended by students from all branches of IE programs. With the establishment filled to capacity, this evening presented a unique opportunity for the students to mingle with fellow business students, as well as faculty and staff, from outside their groups, sections and degree programs. The evening was a fun filled collection of food and drink, music and dancing and new associations. It was the perfect way to begin the holiday break.

On November 24, Thanksgiving Day, the IE Partners Club got together to celebrate with their student partners, other Americans, and anyone who felt like "giving thanks". The event was a "Pot Luck" and every member brought a typical dish from their country or just something they wanted to share. Dishes varied from Guacamole, to Samosas to Chocolate Mousse and although there was no giant turkey, we were thankful to share the evening together.

El club se reúne generalmente cada segunda semana para incorporar una actividad cultural, aprender nuevas habilidades de los/as diferentes participantes, apreciar las delicias culinarias que Madrid tiene para ofrecer, o simplemente para tomar un café y conversar. Aprendemos de cada una los éxitos y conocimientos que tienen sobre Madrid, España y el mundo, y le damos la bienvenida a todo el que quiera hacer parte de nuestra experiencia.
