Artur Fernando and Javier

2006 MILP Alumni Artur, Fernando and Javier, participated in the SDA BOCCONI Ski Cup celebrated in Sestriere last February 29.

Artur got a second possition in Snowboard, Fernando was 5th and Javier 9th in Ski. Apart from a great time they had the opportunity to exchage business cards, among others, with the Bocconi Alumni Association President, Ricardo Monti, Senior Partner & Managing Director at BCG Italy.

The skydiving trip to Lillo was a soaring success!!!

This year, IE’s crew was sponsored by Ambilamp Association for recycling and conservation of the natural environment, and fought hard in a regatta with strong winds, rough seas and fierce competition.

At the end of September, the fourth edition of the MBA’s Cup regatta took place in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy as in previous years. This event, which has become a classic, includes the participation of 21 of the world’s most important Business Schools and over 400 of their students.

The IE crew -formed by IMBA05 Johannes Tinsobin (Austria), Pablo Divasson (Spain), Carlos Vázquez (Spain), IMBA06 Karim Kreaa (Syria), Laura Fernández (Argentina), Wim Zwaenepoel (Belgium), Alberto Ordiales (Mexico)and IMBA07 Nicolas Dilger (Germany)- finished the first day’s sailing in an extraordinary 2nd place position, but due to an unfortunate incident with the Rotterdam BS yacht, ended up in 11th position by the event’s end.

The MBA’s Cup is a unique opportunity for business students, brought together by their passion for sailing, to make contacts and to exchange ideas amongst themselves, with business leaders and with those who push forward major changes at the international level. In today’s world, sustainability is one of the most important issues in business, and for this it is especially pertinent that our sponsor this year was AMBILAMP, a non profit-making company, whose aim is to promote the protection of the natural environment, through the creation of an integrated management system for the treatment of wastes produced by used lamp-bulbs.

IE is ranked amongst the world’s top 10 business schools and comes Europe’s 1st in the sustainability ranking published by The Aspen Institute. This ranking evaluates the integration of social and environment issues in the curricula of MBA programs. The link between Ambilamp and IE is Juan Carlos Enrique Moreno, General Manager of Ambilamp and alumnus of IE’s Executive MBA program (1990).

EL I torneo de Pádel del Instituto de Empresa se celebró en el Polideportivo

EL torneo se disputó en una primera fase en formato de liguilla con 4 grupos de 4 parejas, los cuales jugaron partidos de un set entre sí, una vez concluido los 3 partidos por grupo, se paso a la segunda fase, juntando a los primeros en un grupo, a los segundos en otro grupo, etc.

Following the sucess of recently finished IE Winter Football Tournament, inscription will take place for those teams that want to take part in the Spring-Summer 7 a-side Football tournament.

Please select the players for your teams carefully so that you won't miss ANY of the matches (teams that miss matches or do not supply a referee when requested will be disqualified).
Taking into account that the matches will (almost certainly) be played on Sunday afternoons, form your teams and send an email tothe Football Organisation Committee (FOC).
Registration will close on 8 March at 2pm.
Please complete and return the attached Excel spreadsheet.
During the week commencing 12 March we will organise a meeting with the team captains for the collection of the registration money (140 Euros) and also to convey more details about the tournament.
It's very important that the captain is somebody who can be responsible for their team and maintain a good contact with the FOC.

The time has come to have some confrontations...
The IE Tennis Tournament is going to start next week around the 17th of February. It will take place during several week-ends. In order to participate to the tournament, please register here before this Sunday 11th.

El torneo de Tenis empieza el 17 de Febrero y se prolongará durante unos cuantos fines de semana. Si queréis participar, registraos aquí antes del Domingo 11 de febrero.

Basically, the best players of the tournament will represent the IE team at the MBAT and the IE Tennis champion will be rewarded with the Trophy above. There is a fee of 2 euros for participating to the tournament. This does not include the tennis court reservation (no more that 4 euros per person per play) that will be paid according to the number of times each one plays.
Looking forward to seeing you all for a nice experience. There is only one rule, be fair-play!

Los mejores jugadores del torneo podrán representar, si quieren, al equipo de Tenis del IE en el MBAT. Además, el mejor recibirá el fantástico trofeo que veis arriba. La inscripción son 2 euros, aunque esto no incluye la reserva de la pista de tenis (cada jugador tendrá que pagar alrededor de 4 euros por hora).

Este torneo puntuará para la clasificación final de jugadores del Instituto de Empresa, que determinará los campeones al final de temporada. This tournament scores to ie paddle league. Important: There must be at least an IE student on each pair.

CATEGORÍAS: LIBRE.

HORARIOS: sábado 16 de Diciembre: De 16:00 h a 20:00 h. en caso de lluvia antes del torneo no durante, se aplazaría al 13 de Enero sábado a la misma hora, por lo que reservaros ambas fechas.

SISTEMA DE COMPETICIÓN:

TODAS LAS PAREJAS JUGARÁN 8 PARTIDOS CON DIFERENTES PAREJAS.
Se formarán grupos de 4 parejas al azar todos contra todos en partidos de 1 set con tie break. Una vez resuelto cada grupo se formarán 4 nuevos grupos en función de la clasificación obtenida: Los 4 primeros masculinos y femeninos de cada grupo irán al grupo 1 los 4 segundos al Grupo 2 y a así sucesivamente.

Cada grupo dispondrá de 2 pistas, reduciendo al máximo la espera entre los enfrentamientos. En caso de empate prevalecerá el enfrentamiento directo.

De este modo, todas las parejas jugarán 8 partidos con independencia de los resultados que obtengan.

El campeón del grupo 1 será el campeón del Torneo.

OBSEQUIOS:

- Al final de torneo se hará un sorteo de Material deportivo.

PREMIOS:

CAMPEÓN DEL TORNEO: Trofeo a la pareja ganadora.

INSCRIPCIÓN:

Individual, todos los partidos serán con parejas y rivales diferentes, bolas y premios. Precio de inscripción: 30 € por persona.

- Tras realizar la pre-inscripción por mail especificando los nombres de la pareja (por favor intentad que estén formadas solo por gente del i.e.), se enviará un mail de confirmación a todos los inscritos especificando que han sido aceptados para el torneo y especificando la forma de pago y plazo máximo. SCHEDULE:

RULES:

ALL THE COUPLES WILL PLAY 8 MATCHES WITH DIFFERENT COUPLES.

Due to large and increasing demand for football, the Football Organisation Committee (FOC) has come up with some changes to accommodate this; so please read this post carefully in order to remain on the ball!

Debido a la alta y creciente demanda de fútbol, el Football Organisation Committee (FOC) ha realizado varios cambios, por lo que haced el favor de leer este anuncio detenidamente!!

We are organising our first 7x7 football tournament on the 17th of December. From this date onwards there will be a tournament every Sunday (except in holidays and examination weeks of course).

What are you expected to do?

- Form your own team of 7-10 players.
- The captain of your team has to register the team with us via email by the 13th of December (3:00 pm).
- Each team will have to commit for the first 5 tournaments and therefore pay 175 Euros each.
- The captains (and others if they wish) must attend the meeting hosted by the FOC on the 14th of December where they can pay us the above stated fees and we can give further information on the tournament to them.

Se va a realizar un Torneo de Fútbol 7 que se jugara todos los Domingos (excepto en vacaciones y exámenes) y comenzara el 17 de Diciembre.

¿Qué vamos a hacer?

-Tenéis que formar vuestro propio equipo 7-10 jugadores.
-El capitán del equipo debe registrar el equipo mandándonos un email antes del 13 de Diciembre.
-Cada equipo abonara 175 € para jugar los primeros 5 partidos.

The football pitch at La Chopera in the El Retiro park (the same place as last thursday) is booked for Wednesday 15/11/06 (tomorrow) 16:30 for ONLY 1 hour.
In the link shown it´s marked as no.23.

PLEASE be there 10 minutes before or on time, otherwise I can not guarantee you a game, as many of you saw last week that we had a lot of people (44 people) who want to play. We have the whole pitch booked just like last week so we can make 4 teams of 7 people in each and NO more. So the first 29 people can play and the late comers will have to try their luck next time.

We are in the process of looking for other pitches near IE that will allow us 2 hours each session (especially on Saturdays) so that even the late comers can have a game.

For the second year running, current students and alumni took part in one of the highlights of the MBA sailing scene. The atmosphere and events were met with great enthusiasm by IE’s eight-member crew.

The MBA’s Cup Regatta, organized by SDA Bocconi, was hosted once again by the prestigious Yacht Club Italiano in the lovely waters of the Genoese coast off Santa Margherita Ligure. What started six years ago as a rather informal regatta for Bocconi alumni has become one of the largest international MBA sports events, with some 400 students from top European and US Business Schools taking part. The competition was as tough as ever, with some very experienced crews on state of the art yachts.

Insituto de Empresa’s eight member crew hailed together from six different countries and was comprised of Johannes Tinsobin IMBA05 (Austria), Carlos Vázquez IMBA05, Pablo Divasson IMBA05 (both from Spain), Marcos Ferrer IMBA06 (Argentina), Wim Zwaenepoel IMBA06 (Belgium), Karim Kreaa IMBA06 (Spain), Alexander Corrie IMBA06 (UK) and Alberto Ordiales IMBA06 (Mexico). They were sailing for the first time together and soon became effective at their tasks. The aptly-called IE boat “Escondida II” was initially hard to find upon our late night arrival, but proved to be a real character and a firm old friend during the races.

IE’s crew was easily the best looking. A uniform of white polos and white caps with the blue IE logo was chosen, because in Italy you always go in style. These good looks attracted the attention of Glamour Magazine, The Sailing Channel and the local crowds.

The 4 day event also featured social events and a conference entitled “A wider, wilder world: competing overseas” with the key note speaker Alfonso Iozzo, CEO of the Italian bank Sao Paolo, giving interesting insights into the European banking industry.

The MBA’s Cup Regatta provides a good opportunity to put into practice essential management skills learned during an MBA (such as planning, forming a strategy, working as a team, making the most of available technologies and tools and competing abroad). The setting was healthy and competitive, and there was the chance to meet present and future managers from top-tier MBA schools, such as Wharton, NYU Stern, Kellogg, Bocconi, INSEAD, IESE and LBS.

The team thoroughly enjoyed the regatta and looks forward to bringing home a trophy next year (after taking “Escondida II” to the America’s Cup in Valencia).

The mens football team, amid TOUGH competition, placed 3rd at the MBA Tournament at HEC.

The performance of our basketball team during the annual Spring Fling in Barcelona was quite impressive.

We managed to reach Semi-Finals, where we played against IESE. Now we really are looking forward to take revenge at the MBA Tournament in Paris, on May 25th to 28th.

Our team is very balanced and we have really good chances to make something memorable in France by winning the tournament!

Sunday, November 27, 2005 marked the "the first of many" IE soccer tournaments. IMBA2005 hosted two guest teams: the promising IMBA (Newbies) 2006 and the seasoned IE Veterans. Prior to the tournament there was much talk about whether IMBA2005 had recovered from its last two international tournaments as well as whether the IE Veterans still had it in them, having dominated past tournaments (MBA Olympics in Paris, Spring Fling in Barcelona and the "big cup" in a the USA). The stadium at Canal Isabel II was filled almost to capacity and dedicated fans endured temperatures reaching 3ºC.

The cup began with the IMBA Newbies challenging the IE Veterans. The IMBA Newbies came out strong, very strong, and quickly showed the "old men" that they meant business. Until the middle of the match, the kids were able to keep the score respectable, only down 2-1. Pretty good considering it was the first time they were playing together. As the IE Veterans put in a third goal, the rhythm of the match quickly turned to their favor and they easily found the net again, bringing the final score to 4-1.

Next, and with only a very short rest, the Newbies found themselves facing IMBA2005. A much more even match, both teams showed lots of intensity as they battled to the very end. The final score: IMBA2005 2 - IMBA Newbies 1.

Lastly, the IE Veterans returned to take on the host team. Both teams began strong; IMBA2005 continuing with their momentum from the previous match and the IE Veterans relieved from a nice little rest. Juan Gali had an incredible opportunity exhibiting awesome precision (he found the goal's frame wonderfully), but almost just wasn't quite enough in this game. The IE Veterans had the chance to put the game away, but Alberto's penalty shot hit the goal post. It has been rumored that Alberto just wanted to show Gali that he could hit the frame just as well. The IE Veterans were, however, able to finish on another scoring chance and walked away with a 1-0 victory and with the copa IE.
